La Kermasse

Unbeknownst to us, there is an annual event at the end of the school year called la kermasse. It is a festival to celebrate the end of the school year, and ours was this morning. We had been asked again to bring goodies for a bake sale, so off we went at 9 AM with muffins in hand, having no idea what to expect. It ended up being a good bit of fun. Here are the pictures to prove it: Each child was able to buy a ticket to play all of the games. Each girl had her name on her card, and they got some kind of mark at each station.

Our first stop was the Go Fishing station. Here is Miss M concentrating on "catching" a good package. This station was done really well. Each package was wrapped in newspaper and had a loop taped to it. The fishing poles had hooks on the end of the strings, and the kids had to hook the loops on the packages. It was a challenge, but not impossible.
Miss had her own method. She held the pole in one hand and the hook in the other. No sense chasing those packages with that hook!
After the fishing, the girls did the Egg and Spoon Race. They had to carry their plastic eggs through and obstacle course. It was great! Every time one of the plastic eggs fell, it burst open revealing a cloth egg white and yolk.
Miss M was really concentrating on her second try at the egg and spoon race. I think she dropped the egg twice the whole time.
Here is Miss M at the end of the course, still looking serious.
I think Miss S liked the relay race the best. It was another obstacle course, but she got to run this time! That egg race was too slow for her. The kids had to carry a ball in a bucket through most of the course,
then they got to throw bean bags into a hula hoop. Miss S has quite an arm.
Here is Miss M on her second run through the relay course. She is getting advice and encouragement from one of the older students. She didn't have the ball in the bucket this time but had to balance a tennis ball in the Y of a tennis racket.
Miss M has got game! She hit almost all of her shots at the basketball station.
Miss S was throwing the ball too hard and didn't make any baskets. She's much better with a soccer ball or a bean bag. The Mom in the corner of this picture is one of the Moms who speaks to me almost everyday. She is also the Mom who was closest to Miss S a few months ago when she came to an unplanned sliding stop on the sidewalk on the way home from school. Miss S let this Mom cuddle her until I made it down the hill with Miss M. And I still don't know her name.
After basketball, we had a short break to chase bubbles around the courtyard.
Miss S finally got to put that pitching arm to work. She played this game twice, and grinned every time she knocked down those cans.

There were 2 other games that I didn't get pictures of - bowling and a surprise box. Sorry guys. I was having too much fun helping my girls have fun. And Daddy didn't have the camera.
